History
In 1968, the company was established as Algonquin Metals to manufacture trailer hitches and towing accessories in Huntsville, Ontario, Canada. Today, Algonquin Automotive has evolved into a leading supplier of high-quality, low-cost, automotive exterior accessories for the world's top OEM automotive companies.
1968
Algonquin Metals begins making trailer hitches and towing accessories in Ontario, Canada.
1976
A dynamic, young entrepreneur, Jim Alexander, purchases Algonquin
1980-89
Alexander builds an energetic team that develops and launches innovative new accessories for consumers to customize their vehicles for appearance and utility.
1990-99
The Algonquin team develops enhanced designs for running boards. The innovative design attracts the automotive industry's major OEMs, including Toyota, General Motors, Chrysler and Ford and fast tracks the company to global capabilities and quality standards.
Algonquin is divided into two separate divisions:
- Algonquin Automotive for exterior automotive accessories for OEM customers.
- Hidden Hitch for trailer hitches and towing accessories in the aftermarket channel.
Algonquin Automotive builds a new facility for its headquarters, manufacturing, research and development, engineering design and testing in Huntsville. To accommodate the fast-paced growth, the company also purchases an assembly and warehousing facility in Gravenhurst, Ontario, and enters into a joint venture which builds a paint facility with plastic coating capabilities in nearby Bracebridge, Ontario.
2000-2009
Hidden Hitch is sold and Algonquin Automotive purchases the Bracebridge paint plant in 2001. Today, Algonquin's paint operations offer world-class plastics coating capabilities which meet the high standards of its OE customer base.
In 2003, Algonquin Automotive turns its focus to the tremendous opportunities for building global strategic supply partnerships in Asia. Algonquin Automotive takes the lead in the automotive exterior accessories market by establishing a 9-member team in the Shanghai area in China. This calculated risk immediately enhances our ability to meet our customers demand for high quality products at the lowest possible cost.
Today, we are well positioned and structured to evaluate markets and respond swiftly to our customers needs for low-cost, high-quality, reliable, on-time delivery in the highly competitive automotive industry.
Present
The assets of Algonquin Automotive were acquired by Tiercon Corp. in July of 2009. All North American manufacturing has been consolidated into Tiercon's Stoney Creek, Ontario facilities. Tiercon has transitioned a number of core personnel to assure the Algonquin Automotive customer base is fully supported.
